Astronomers have found a space factory that creates pure gold

Mergers have produced many heavy elements, including iron, silver, platinum and even uranium. Gold is only a by-product – scientists are much more interested in the process of synthesis of new elements, which was incredibly fast, but left material for research for decades to come.
