Fires in Greece have forced the evacuation of thousands of people

The fire, fanned by winds, is spreading through low-growing shrubbery and olive groves. Heavy fires have also been reported in Thessaloniki and on the island of Lesbos.
Greece was also hit by serious forest fires last year. Then the authorities called the situation critical, and the death toll totalled more than a dozen.
