As noted in the publication, four people died and two others are missing in Wuping county of coastal Fujian province due to landslides caused by torrential rains. It is noted that the rains started in the region as early as noon on Sunday and authorities recorded 372.4 millimetres of rainfall in 24 hours.
The agency pointed out that at least 378 houses collapsed in the county and about 880 hectares of crops were damaged. China’s Xinhua news agency, citing local authorities, said damage from the disaster was estimated at 415 million yuan, or $572 million.
