The hunch about jumping leeches has been confirmed

Fahmy videotaped leeches belonging to the genus Chtonobdella in Madagascar’s Ranomafana National Park and Iwohiboro Protected Area in 2017 and 2023. The creatures deliberately jumped from a leaf to the ground and did so using the spring effect: pulling back to accumulate potential energy and then throwing themselves down, keeping their bodies extended during the flight.
