Kevin Costner’s large-scale project, dedicated to dramatic episodes of the development of the Wild West, will not attract a large number of viewers even in the United States. This is evidenced by preliminary estimates of premiere box office receipts.
It is expected that “Horizons: Part 1” will earn in the first weekend at the domestic box office from 10 to 12 million dollars. That’s clearly not the figure the director or distributor of a $100 million+ film would like to see.
It’s worth noting that Kevin Costner put $38 million of his own money into his dream project when no studio agreed to sign on and finance it. And this is despite the fact that all over the world he is still remembered for the dramatic western “Dances with Wolves”, which won the Academy Award, directed and starring in which he was also.
